My Friends and Supporters:
Well, the election is over and the results
are in. Needless to say the results were not what we'd hoped for. I've had
quite a while now to thing about what I wanted to say to everyone and how to
react to the election loss.
Am I disappointed? Absolutely! I'm most
disappointed, however, for the folks who supported me, contributed time, effort
and funds to my campaign and those who worked so hard for me not only on
election day at the polls but also throughout the campaign. To all those people
words can't adequately express my appreciation for your support and efforts on
my behalf. The poll watchers got there at 6:30 AM Saturday and didn't leave
until after 1:00 AM Sunday morning. They did yeoman's duty.
The best thing about this campaign effort was
the fact I met so many wonderful, friendly people. People I would not perhaps
have had an opportunity to meet otherwise. I made some tremendous new friends
that I will value forever. So, how can anything like that not be a positive in
one's life?
I was extremely disappointed in the tactics
used against us, especially since I believe they were nothing more than pure
deceit and absolutely unethical. Politics is never pretty; it’s a full-contact
sport. I realize that. I’ve told everyone I’m more than willing to fade the
heat for what I say and what I write, however, having out-and-out lies told
about you and what you stand for is never pleasant. Sometimes you can fight
back and sometimes not. Usually the damage is done before its extent is fully
realized. By then it’s usually too late.
I am proud of the way we ran our campaign.
We ran a clean, ethical, issues-oriented campaign from the beginning; we were
honest and forthright with the voters in hopes the truth would prevail in the
end. To some, it did. Obviously to others it did not. Far too often elections
become purely a popularity contest not involving a hard look at issues or
reality. The decision, in the end, always rests with the voters and that's what
matters when the smoke clears and the dust settles. They are the ones who make
the ultimate decision.
Anyway, I appreciate your support and am
honored by your vote. We will keep in touch going forward with the hope we can
make a real impact on Midlothian's future turning it in the right direction
eventually. May God bless. Thank you.
